Eastbourne’s Kingfisher Scout Band

Ain't No Mountain High Enough

Eastbourne’s Kingfisher Scout Band has returned from a successful trip to Kenya, where it performed at the foot of Mount Kenya for the 100th Anniversary of Scouting, and continued its mission to help teach Kenya’s street children essential life skills.

Smith and Ouzman was one of several local organisations to help sponsor the Kingfishers and make their dream trip a reality. The band, along with other members of the Scouting Fellowship from Sussex, supports community projects in Kenya, designed to improve the lives of street children. Together with the Scout Association Extension Programme, 24 units have been set up to date across Kenya to help children in difficulty.

According to Alan Archer, bandmaster of the Scout Band: “The band has returned safely from its trip where we had a really great time. It was such a positive experience for everyone. We finally got to achieve a goal to visit the resting place of the scouting founder, Lord Baden-Powell, and to perform songs publicly against the stunning backdrop of Kenya at the scout camp in Nyeri, north of Nairobi.”
